This is not a philosophical discussion on absurdism or even a discussion on a higher plane. I’m just narrating from my experience and observations- so this discussion is definitely staying on a lower plane.
Life can be full of stressors and some of these stressors are things we place on ourselves. All I’m advocating for is to try and find the absurd/the ridiculous in an every day occurrence. Just one moment everyday that makes you chuckle, reduces stress and gives you back a moment of joy. I would caution against seeking to find things to mock or make fun of as that’s easy and soul destroying and not a worthwhile pursuit (in my opinion) of our finite time on earth.
What am I talking about? The image above is drawn from life. I got my dog a puzzle toy and he knows how to use it and get a treat- except he waits for an opportune moment when he gains the treat without effort. Sometimes, I show him how easy it is to operate and get the treat and voila- he’s there in a flash and gobbles down the treat or the robot vacuum cleaner bumps against it and the pods open and then he just gobbles down the treat. It’s so absurd and ridiculous that I wait for it and enjoy it. It also inspired a series of fun dog themed artworks on how they (dogs) train their humans.
Back in the pre-food delivery days when you’d phone in your order and go to the takeaway restaurant to pick up, my name was invariably taken down incorrectly and rather than correcting them, I grew to find it a fun game. I’d just verify it was the right order each time is all. And each time I’d get a really funny story.
It’s certainly not earth shattering, but I think you will find that it can make your life richer and infinitely more enjoyable. If this struck a chord with you, I’d love to know.
